Some Horse Things
We had a questionably good weather day for riding on Saturday - some wind, clouds and showers in the morning, although that same unsettled weather produced skies like this:
Sunday, we gave the horses a nice brisk workout over at Dimple Dell, where there is good drainage, so not too many mud puddles after the heavy rains of last week.
I finally have pictures from my SIL and BIL's visit from the weekend just after we returned from the UK tour. Their 2-year-old, wee Will, who isn't so wee anymore, absolutely fell in love with Happy. The kid has good taste and obviously takes after his uncle D, who was pretty much the same instant, love at first sight, kinda experience. Will sang her name to her and every time he'd wake up (either in the a.m. or from his nap) he was very very concerned that she had enough to eat. Hap quickly figured out that when the short person visited the barn, food was to follow closely.
And Will was absolutely thrilled that he got to "ride" Hap in the barn. She was a little confused, I think, about A) why the rider was so very light and B) why she didn't have to do anything other than stand still. She was very very gentle and patient with him, and although he was offended that I was hanging onto his sweatshirt (since it was obvious that he could ride her all by himself!), I think the look on his face says it all.
Since he's returned home, apparently the love affair has not really faded. He's got a picture of her up in his room and he talks to her while he gives his toy horse hay and moves her around in the back of his pickup truck. So, I contacted our next-door neighbors back in Vermont, whose daughter is an incredible artist, and I had her do up some ornaments for us for Xmas - with one to Will from Happy, of course. She did a beautiful job incorporating all the images of the horses I sent to her to use.
(These are hard to capture on film because of the reflections on the glass balls and the rounded surface, but trust me when I tell you they are beautiful.)
Here's Hap standing in the snow:
Okay, okay - yes... I had some of Digger done as well. I don't think you can make it out from the crappy photo, but the wrapping paper on the box has little carrots painted on it.
We are looking forward to sending Will his little gift from his new horse friend - AND I have one Xmas gift checked off the list already (with only...ya know... a bazillion left to go).
All for now.....

Love the ornaments! Will will LOVE having his own horsey ornaments!

This is so sweet! I want to know where you got the ornaments done ... I just might have to do the same with my burros. I fell in love with a beautiful mule last weekend; lucky for us she is happily owned by someone else.
