WIP Wednesday - 03/19/08
Back from beyond finally. Thank you to everyone who either left a comment or sent me an email about last week. It is lovely to know there are so many kind and caring folks out in blog-land. I wasn't able to answer everyone individually, but please know it really meant a lot to me and to D, who misses his girl every time he looks out in the pasture.
As you might guess, I haven't been particularly productive. Or at least not much with things on the list.
Project #1: Seraphim Shawl
Due to a long day sitting at the doctor's office and various errands on Friday, I did get some time put in on this and I'm this close to being done with chart #3. One more pattern row and a purl-back row and then I can move onto the edging chart.
GOAL: Finish chart #3 and start edging.
Project #2: Lace Diamond Scarf
Don't say you weren't warned - s-l-o-w going here. Not one stinkin' thing done on this. It looks precisely the same. Sigh.
GOAL: Think small. Try for 2 completed repeats and more only as a bonus.
I did actually do some completely mindless knitting on D's Cobblestone Pullover, which isn't on my WIP list, but sometimes stockinette is about all you can handle. This has been one of those weeks. I'm about halfway done the body on this and I'm just gonna keep sneaking some time on it when I need something I don't have to think about to work on.
Yarn is Beaverslide Dry Goods merino in color "Marsh Sedge". Yummy.
All for now....

There is a place for patterns that require you to think and distract you from your cares, and a place for nice soothing stockinette. Good thing you have both. Seraphim is looking so pretty in red, and the Beaverslide is just perfectly tweedy for Cobblestone.

Glad the fog is lifting a bit...it takes time. The Cobblestone sounds like good therapy!

Some events we don't get over. We just gradually get used to the new reality. However many stockinette stitches it takes.

Have many projects on the needles insure you will always have something for every mood. I've thought about D and his loss all week...it's a tough one.

I agree completely with the earlier posters.
I'll keep you posted as to how I like the Williamstown from WEBS when I start knitting it. Maybe a swatch is in order. I love the Northampton. Since I've only been knitting a few years I don't have a lot to compare it too though. I think Yarn Harlot used it recently and raved about it and she certainly has more experience than I do.
The most difficult part about WEBS is I find their photos don't always do the color justice.

Stockinette is a good thing.

The good thing about knitting is that there is a project for every mood. If straight stockinette is what is comforting for you right now, then that's what you do. Hobbies should make us feel better, I think. Hang in there and take care of yourself.

Some years are stockinette!! Lots of projects mean something for every moment. I'm doing 'meeting lace' these days.

Marsh is lovely.
So sorry to hear of the colic taking. So very sad. Glad you found the dogs. Oh my. I'd be on the psych ward. carry on my friend, carry on.

Chris uttered pure wisdom. Stockinette can ease the transition. Gives you some time to get used to things, without full attention, and then it starts to become part of life's fabric.

Oh, dear, the name of that last yarn always makes me smirk. Yes, I am a nine year old boy!
The Seraphim shawl looks lovely.

I have been swamped and dealing with computer woes as well for the past week and just found out about your poor, dear Hap... I am in tears. I have been there, and not so long ago, so do know that my heart is with you and that she is waiting for D on the other side of the rainbow bridge.... oh, I guess I should add that thinking small is good enough with such stress and your WIPs are doing better than you both must have been last week. I am even more amazed that my yarn and fleece both arrived yesterday.

Hmmm. I have some Beaverslide in Fringed Sagewort that you're giving me Dangerous Ideas about...
You'll be done with Seraphim in no time at all! I know those last rows of a shawl seem to take forever, but we also tend to work on them with great determination, too. ;-)

Oh Anne,
I am so, so sorry for your recent loss. I hope things are actually going better and you're not just putting on a good front for us. Your knitting is just lovely, and I hope it will pull you over the brink - ((Huggs to you and D from me))

Mindless knitting is just what we need sometimes and with the week you had last week....I'm betting mindless knitting was a comfort.
Thankfully Spring is just around the corner for all of us! Hugs!

Just catching up, and oh, I am so terribly, terribly sorry for your loss. Knowing you did the right thing doesn't make it any easier to accept.
Stockinette sounds just the ticket for a week like the one you just had. I hope that the next days are brighter.
