Cutting it Close

I had a wonderful time visiting with a bunch of the Utah grrls on Sunday morning, with a brunch outing to Margene's favorite Silver Fork Lodge.  (She's got pictures at her blog, and I'll bet Susan and Laurie will too!).  After eating far too much, and heading home, I settled in with Emma and a book on the iPod to work on Rosarie.

I am pleased to note that all the knitting is finished!  And I had just barely enough of the Red Rattle (the medium red colorway) left to finish.  Here's what I had after I darned in the end of the last repeat for the armhole edging.

(Luckily, Margene was kind enough to come to my rescue.  She had a small bit of leftovers from her Rosarie vest in this color, but I didn't need to tap into the backup yarn.)  The pattern called for the use of that medium red in 2 of the 3 repeats for the neck and armhole facings.  Instead of doing that, I opted to substitute the bright red for one of those repeats, and I had just enough of the medium red to finish.  I little TOO close for comfort, for my tastes.

On the way home, I also stopped and picked out 2 sets of buttons for the vest.  I am leaning towards the plainer reddish ones, as I think they are subtle and don't stand out against the busy-ness of the fair isle patterning.  What do you think?

Or.... I also found a set of Celtic knot ones in metal.  I might save these for my Tangld Yoke Cardigan though.  (They are a bit washed out because of the flash I needed this morning, but I think you can get the idea):

So now I "just" have finishing work to do and a good blocking.  I still need to tack down the cut edges of the steeks on the inside, attach the buttons, and weave in a few ends, but I'm really happy with the progress I've made so far on this already this week!

All for now.....

I was afraid you wouldn't have enough even with my measly little leftover. The plain buttons are fabulous!

Can't wait to see it modeled....looking gorgeous there! Wish I could have been there at Silver Fork: usually we are in Utah around this time of year. Oh, well, see you in New Mexico in October!

I like the red ones.

Your strong finish took me by surprise! I would go with the matching buttons.

It looks absolutely amazing. I'm sorry I couldn't see you before you left but at least we still have the blogs. :)

I vote for the red. I can'g believe how quickly you whipped this out.

Yea for you - a strong finish indeed! Love the red buttons, too.

Maybe before long I will see Rosarie modeled in person!

I think either set of buttons would look great! Everything is moving quickly over there these days!

Another vote for the red - they're nice and non-competing.

Yikes- you like to live on the edge...I'd be sweating bullets if I cut it that close!

I like the silver buttons! (but it looks like the red ones take the vote)

I wanna come to NM!!!

Go red! And my, oh my, you should be proud in the midst of all you are doing otherwise!

Both buttons look great but I do like the celtic knot the best. It look really nice with the pattern in your sweater. Good luck in New Mexico!!

Yikes....you must have really been sweating it with the yarn. That is VERY close, but oh so pretty!
