I participated in Project Spectrum 3 last year, and had a wonderful time expanding my color horizons. Several of the projects I knit last year were with colors I wouldn't normally have picked, but I was able to.... shall we say.... expand my horizons because of PS3?
Our intrepid hostess, Lolly, has done it again this year with Project Spectrum 4. (You can read details about this year at the Ravelry Group or on Lolly's blog post about it.) The theme for this year is the 4 cardinal directions. First up for March and April is North, represented by:
Color: Green
Material: Stones/Gems/Rocks
Season: Winter
Element: Earth
The great thing about PS is that you can customize it for yourself. If you don't want to knit anything, you could perhaps just take pictures of winter scenes, or design/create jewelry using any of the listed materials.
I found myself strongly drawn to North. Not only because I happened to have a green (well, to be honest several green) project up in my queue, but I also am a closet rock-nut and I love the winter season. My Trinity Vest project fits the bill on several levels.
Color: Green, but it also has a lichen-on-rocks feel to me, and the Trinity pattern complements that nicely.
Material: I found some wonderful beach-pebble buttons that I'm going to use on the front of the vest (see details below).
Season: Winter - a nice snuggly vest is perfect for the season.
Element: Earth - green colorway, animal fibers in the yarn (wool and mohair) and rocks - all tied together nicely.
I'm looking forward to the other months too, but I can tell North is going to be an easy and favorite direction for me.
And a note on the buttons. I purchased them from MadeForFun's Etsy shop. They are nicely and smoothly polished. I think they look very cool against this vest fabric, although I may need to widen the button band a bit (easily accomplished when I get there) since they are not petite.
All for now.....

Those buttons will be fabulous with your vest!

I was curious about the buttons when you first mentioned them. Thanks for sharing the info...I think they'll be lovely on the cardigan I'm making out of your wisteria yarn...

You're off to a fine PS start before it's even begun. This one is going to be fun!
