Since I got the Vermont Road yarn finished up and off the Saxony, I sat down and also plied the 2 bobbins of singles I had been spinning from the natural-colored CVM wool.
PROJECT SPECS
Fiber Source: I won 4 ounces of natural gray roving from Nancy at Long Ridge Farm last year in her lambing pool. The fiber is from her ram, Jasper. The original roving really was more of a "true" roving, meaning, not combed top. It had a wee bit of lanolin left in it. It was a nicely blended and prepared carded roving with lots of bounce and spring in it.
Technique: I spun this as a semi-woolen yarn. The more disorganized nature of the roving (as opposed to a combed preparation) lended itself to keeping more loft in the yarn. I did put in a bit of extra twist for the final plying process, as I have plans to use this for cable or patterned stitch-work.
Yarn Specs: 4 ounces spun as a 2-ply, worsted weight yarn. This yielded 381 yards.
I had earmarked this for the Tilly Scarf from A Fine Fleece, but I am right at the edge of how much minimum yardage I would need for even the lighter DK-weight version, so I'm not sure I want to risk it. I might look for a simpler stitch pattern that would let me use all of this yardage, but not run out. I'm still thinking about this one's end usage.
And finally, thanks to the power of the blog search, I realized I have one final roving to spin up from my original list of 5. So, up next will be 4 ounces of BFL roving from my friend, Kim, at The Woolen Rabbit. The colorway on this one is called "Cobblestones". I'm not entirely sure about a grand plan for the finished yarn, so I'm going to just enjoy the ride, and spin it up to my default grist and decide on it once it's finished.
There's a couple of new Kim's BFL in my stash I need to decide what weight to spin and get going. Her dyeing is always beautiful.

Yes, color themes. The CVM looks soft, squooshy. Would you ever spin CVM top worsted?

Ooh, it looks so lofty! I love it. And the one you have up next is going to be gorgeous, too!

Wow, you've been busy since I was gone for a week! It's nice to see you were able to ride last weekend. Hopefully you're not getting too much more snow now. Vermont Road is simply gorgeous and your Brennan Cowl looks great (if I didn't know better I would think it was out of AFF too).

Hmmmm...all of my spinning is random in that I never plan ahead for the yarn. Sometimes I think I should change that, but at the same time it does make for relaxing spinning!

So much fun to see what you are spinning. Love the Cobblestones colorway coming up next.
