I finished up the Funky Carolina silk/merino laceweight I was spinning this week.
PROJECT SPECS:
Fiber Source: Funky Carolina's Etsy shop. This is a 50% silk and 50% merino wool blend roving. The colorway is "Vermont Road", which Carrie dyed as a Pure Inspirations Club colorway just for me back in August 2009. She used a photograph of a long dirt road in the fall in Vermont as the inspiration for this colorway.
Technique: I broke the roving in half, thinking at first I was going to spin this as a plied yarn, but I liked the colors so much I decided to keep the yarn as singles, so I spun the entire braid of roving up as one long piece, just fluffing the fibers a little bit as I went. I spun this using a mostly worsted technique.
Specs: 4 ounces, spun as laceweight (24 wpi) singles, yielding 1081 yards.
I had originally thought to make the Road Not Taken scarf from A Fine Fleece, but really.... almost 1100 yards yells "upgrade!" to me. So I am fairly sure I'll use this for the Norwegian Wood Shawl, which is on my to-knit list for this year.
Beautiful! 1100 yd. is something to make plans for.

Oh that is wonderful. The yellow, gold and orange blends so well together! I'm sure the new project will be perfect with it!

Oh, that is gorgeous! I've never contemplated laceweight singles...the idea scares me a bit.
